Happy Holidays!

Dear Parents,

We've come to the end of the first term in Year 5 and it has been a wonderful one indeed!

The children have really enjoyed this last Unit of Inquiry, discovering the secrets of backstage at the theatre and the BBC TV Studios and really getting an insight into the making of a play by writing their own scripts, making their own stages and even acting out their own scenes!

During this unit we have been reading the book 'Danny the Champion of the World' in class and it was a real treat for the children to see the live version in the theatre being acted out on stage!

We had the wonderful production of Snow White to enjoy and again as it was part of the Unit study, the children took on more of a responsible role in putting the play together this year, helping with rehearsals and even designing the whole programme booklet themselves!

Our next Unit of Inquiry will be on learning about childhoods across different generations and cultures and offers the chance for you to be involved!

It is called 'Past Lives, Past Times' and we will be looking at how society has changed over the last 200 years and how growing up in the 1950's, 60's and 70's was very different to growing up nowadays with the advent of technology such as the internet, mobile phones and cheaper flights!

I would love your help in acting as first hand 'sources of information' for the children to interview. If you can spare any time in the 3rd and 4th week of January and come in to be interviewed by Year 5, please do let me know!

As part of the Unit we will also be exploring what Victorian life in Britain was like for kids and giving the children a real flavour of it by having a 'Victorian Day' in the 2nd week of term.
More details to follow! Watch this space regularly!

Happy holidays to all of you and see you in 2008!
